Vedder Mt. Crossover

18 Chilliwack Outdoor Club hikers in 4 4WDs met at the trailhead on the Cultus Lake Main Beach side of Vedder. Usually we go to the summit and back but this time we were going to enter unchartered territory...

In about one hour we got to the pond.

From the pond it wasn't too much farther to the little lake and then the intersection (bottom left) from where an older trail goes down to Majuba Hill. We stayed left, going up 2 rope sections.

Up on the ridge, looking to our left (east) at International Ridge.

At the 907m high summit with no views because of the clouds, we now were about to have our curiosity satisfied. Where did the Ridge Trail go from there?? Well we discovered it was well flagged, but not well used. The loggers chewed up half of it, leaving us to step our way through a large clear-cut area, down to Tower FSR.

We thought we'd end up at the paraglider's lookout but we were a bit lower. So we carried on a bit till we found some nice logs to sit on for lunch, alongside the road on a mountain bike trail.

From the Tower FSR we walked onto the Rocky FSR and were then on very familiar ground. From the road we cut off onto the Lucky Trail which led steeply down to our home. (3 pics here)

Maybe my homemade desserts are what lured 18 hikers out on a cloudy day? Praline pumpkin + Apple Crisp.

So we did 14 km / 540m gain / 1070m loss / 4:35 hours moving time
