Skywalk North

Updated: Sep 6, 2020

Stats: 22.4 km / 1380m gain / 1784m high point / 7:45 hours MT

Sept 1: This hike is located 4 km north of Whistler and gives close up views of Rainbow Mt.

A viewpoint overlooking Green Lake and Wedge Mt. (the pointy peak).

Whistler and Black Tusk rise above the clouds. Alta Lake below them.

From the Lower 19-Mile Creek trail we turned right onto the Rainbow-Sproatt Flank trail.

Then we turned left on the Screaming Cat trail. This is Screaming Cat Lake.

Past the lake the view started to open up as we ascended the ridge. The Screaming Cat trail turned into the Skywalk North trail.

I had hiked Decker Tarn right across the valley 4 days prior. The flowers there were wilted and done. So I was surprised to see a bounty of fresh blooms on this hike.

Lupines and Arnicas.

Cotton Grass & Leather-leaved Saxifrage.

Reflections.

The trail skirted left of this ridge.

The Spearhead Range (Blackcomb & Whistler on the right) -- west.

The peak of Rainbow Mt.

At the high point on the ridge with Rainbow Mt. in the background -- south.

We started this hike a bit later in the day in the hopes that the cloud would clear by the time we got here. It paid off.

Descending into the valley between Skywalk North and Skywalk South trails.

Iceberg Lake.

An odd play of light & shadow in the sky.

Wow -- so many flowers!!!

Mt Marmot was posing for me. He bid us goodbye.

At the junction of the Upper 19 Mile Creek trail and the Skywalk South trail, we were pleasantly surprised to find an outhouse.

The Upper 19 mile Creek trail followed alongside 19 Mile Creek.

We finished the hike just as the sun was setting at 8:00pm.
