Mt. Kelly

February 15, 2022 - Stats: 9.3 km / 686m gain / 1974m high / 3 hrs MT

Following the good weather (or so I thought), we headed out to Allison Pass on Hwy 3, close to Manning Park for a moderate snowshoe. We are now allowed to park inside the open gate, right of the maintenance sheds.

After crossing the highway, we snowshoed up through the forest before coming to the FSR where we turned left. A misty fog enveloped our surroundings.

A 4 cm new coat of snow gave the trees of the forest a fresh look.

At this open area we stopped to regroup and caught a few glimpses of the Hozameen's peaks.

After the lookout, the trail wound through the trees, becoming steeper before breaking out into the meadows.

The Fourth Bros (2100m) + Third & First Bros (both 1260m).

East.

Turning west or left at this broad open slope we were soon at the summit which was just a bit to the right.

From the summit we dropped down about 20m to the ridge where the views to the west and north open up. But it was not to be. The cloud did not lift. The following 2 photos I took on a previous hike.

West.

North: the ridge leading to Mt. Nordheim (with the 2 bumps).

Heading back.

A bit of up on the way down.

Mt. Frosty to the right (2100m) -- southeast.
