Gloria Lookout

January 15, 2025 -- Chilliwack

Stats: 13.9 km / 1337m gain / 1515m high / 5:40 hours MT

When Irene said she wanted to do a harder hike, I immediately thought of this one. Six of us ladies are training for an upcoming trip to Patagonia to trek the 0 Circuit. With only 2 weeks and 2 days to go, we're upping the challenge. Most of the trail winds through forest but when you finally get to the lookout, the payback is worth the effort.

We parked at the Chilliwack Community Forest and stayed left at this first sign.

Here we branched off to the right where a sign warns you of the gain and grade of the trail.

At 840m we ran into snow.

Phew! 1200m gain and 3 hours later, I finally made it to the ridge. That last stretch just seemed to go on forever. Seeing the sky through the trees made me think I was almost there. But the trail kept switchbacking to the left and up.

Rexford & Slesse Mt to the left and a peak of the Border Peaks to the right.

Brigette was ahead of me. There were no signs of anyone else having been up here recently. We had to drop 100m to get to the lookout.

Wow! Such an expansive view.

Sumas Mt to the left and the city of Chilliwack -- northwest.

Robie Reid & Judge Howay Peaks with Chilliwack Mt. to the left -- northwest.

Harrison Lake and the Fraser River -- north.

Agassiz and Cheam Wetlands -- northeast.

Mt. Cheam & Lady Peak - east.

There wasn't much room at the top. Good thing we weren't a big group.

Sue A, Denise D, Sheri K, Brigette G, Irene H, me. Charlotte had stopped just below the ridge.
