Every year we do one or two girlfriend get-aways. This one was in Kelowna.
Our first stop was in Hope where we had lunch at the Blue Moose. This little Japanese oasis is in the park right across the road from it.
We had happy hour at the historic Falkland Pub.
We spent the first night in Endurby by Louise's daughter's dairy farm. Her husband built this barn recently.
After a take-out dinner we had a lovely stroll. This is the original homestead of the previous owners of this land.
Day 2:
We stopped at Polson Park in Vernon to stretch our legs.
In the afternoon we had a 2 hour train ride on the Canadian Pacific train. This 1912 engine weighs 150 tons empty. Loaded with 10,000 gallons of water + 2600 gallons of fuel, it weighs 250 tons. It was built as a coal-burning locomotive and was rebuilt in 1929. In 1967 it became a museum train on the KVR.
Seated in a 1950 coach.
Prairie Valley.
Russian Olive trees.
Prickly Pear cactus.
The train backed up onto the bridge, after switching the engine to the opposite end of the train. This Trout Creek trestle bridge was built in 1913 and was the highest structure on the KVR line at 72m above the canyon floor.
Maryanne & Louise (2nd & 3rd from left) have been my friends since secondary school. Linda & Christine (4rth & 5th) I met through church and have been friends for 40 and 30 years.
Heading back.
The vineyards of Kelowna.
Glad to have finally gotten into our room. We just couldn't get the code/lock to work. Then finally Susan figured out that we were in the wrong building. The Osprey complex has building 1 and 2.
Glad to settle down in our lovely apartment. The beach and town center were within walking distance.
Our first night there we had great fun when we went out in the evening to an Irish pub where they were singing karaoke. Most of the singers were very talented. We even got Susan to give er' a try, with Maryann & Christine as back up singers.
Day 3:
In the morning went shopping and had a delicious lunch at the dutch bakery. In the afternoon we hung out at the pool. Gerty (Maryann's sister and Susan's long-time friend) joined us the day before.
Walking around in the heart of Kelowna is so pretty. The lawns and flower beds are immaculate.
This scene reminds me of Holland, with boats parked right infront of the homes.
We had dinner at the Cactus Club, overlooking the harbour. The food was good but it was too noisy there. So we gave up on conversation and watched the tourists parading by, which proved to be quite entertaining.
We returned to our apartment by way of the boardwalk along the lake.
A Blue Heron patiently wait for its prey.
1) Water playmates. 2) Our apartment was the one to the right.
