Frosty Mt

July 16, Manning Park -- Stats: 22 km / 1233m gain / 2410m high / 3:10 hrs MT to summit

We wanted to show our "dutchies", Lars & Dennis our beautiful BC. Coming from a country that is flat as a pancake, they were absolutely thrilled to experience the gorgeous views from the heights of Mt. Frosty's summit.

Levi (my nephew), Ethan (Corwin's friend), Joachim (runs our nursery), Dennis, Lars, Ellie, Corwin + Jordan (my children)

Lightening Lake.

Clinton Phlox

A grouse chased up the tree by Clover the dog. Surprisingly, he didn't fly away while Clover kept barking at him.

A short side trail got me to this view of Mt. Redoubt (2438m) + Lightening & Flash Lakes -- west.

Case, Don McD, and 2 guests from Australia (the parents of our foreman) hiked to Thunder Lake. They saw more wildflowers than we did. We got back to the parking lot at 5:30pm, having all started at 9:30am. They got back just 10 minutes later. Not bad timing.

The cabin is about the halfway point.

From the cabin its only another 20 minutes to the meadows where the views open right up.

The peak to the left is the one the trail leads to. But the true summit is the peak to the right being only 40m higher.

Avalanche lilies are the first to bloom after the snow melts. Charlie loved rolling around in the snow. Michelle said,"He's like a truffle pig."

The ridge we were to hike.

These 2000 year old larches turn gold in October.

Charlie made it look easy.

Phlox Sticky Polemonium

Broad switch-backs on the steep talus slope leading to the ridge.

On the ridge we could now see the vast expanse of the North Cascades in the USA. The sign to the right reads: Use extreme caution past this point.

2-pic slider: Joachim took a different route from the end of the meadows, climbing this northern slope.

Group shot: Michelle, Ellie, Lars, Joachim, me, Dennis, Corwin, Levi, Ethan.

It's not often I get to hike with my children.

Our dutchies who are staying with us for 2 1/2 months for their internship.

Heading back at 2:00pm.

We crossed over about 3 small fields of soft snow in the meadows area. We all had our micro-spikes with us but did not use them.

Indian Paintbrush Lupines

Lightening Lake picnic area.

Charilie & Clover had to be held on a right reign. They were ready to bolt after all those very interesting tantalizing looking ground hogs.

On this Saturday it was just too busy in the restaurant at the lodge for a group of 14, so we ate at Ricky's in Hope. Us oldies at one big table, the young un's on the next. They cleaned up our left-overs.

Looks like you had a great weather window. I love to see Charlie and Clover enjoying the hiking.

So sorry I missed out. Looks like an interesting group.
