Oct. 1: On my typical morning romp to Vedder Mt. by way of our nursery.
Oct. 1
Jeanette and the boys were visiting from Alberta. The men had gone on their annual 4x4 Whipshaw trip. My three daughters & I + the grandbabies went to the Blue Heron reserve for a stroll.
The boys beat Zoe to the top.
Kids and water -- they love it.
Throwing rocks in the river and watching them splash.
Natalie is almost 1.
Roger is poking at a rotting Salmon in the Vedder River.
Roger & Scott are not only cousins, but the best of friends. They often hold hands when they walk together.
Sept. 27
Renee waited till we got back from our trip to Europe on the 25th, to celebrate Amy's 8th birthday which was on Sept. 17. This is Amy's best friend from school.
These two are the best of friends and the worst of enemies, being only 5 months apart in age and living just a property away.
Julie-Anne loves eating. Especially birthday icecream with sprinkles on top.
Three girlie cousins who love to play with eachother at Oma's house.
Scott loves Cloe.
Oct. 9th was not only Thanksgiving, but also Natalie's very first birthday!
Home-grown turkey, chicken, beets & carrots. My children all pitched in so I only had to prepare the carrots.
Nick's half brother, Jansen.
"Hurry up, mom. We're hungry!"
Looks like Neil is interested in the beer. I guess I ran low on glasses. Corwin was using my chrystal vase.
The kids always get icecream from Oma with a hidden M&M inside the icecream and three different colored M&Ms on top. It gives them more incentive to eat their dinner.
Camille baked her delicious apple & pumpkin pies again.
Watching a Dutch cartoon on Opa's phone.
No, Cloe. You may not come in. You've pooped in my playroom one too many times.
And here comes the birthday pie.
Opening Oma's birthday present. Just a boring outfit. But she's too little yet to realize that yet.
Oct. 25 - Laity's Pumpkin Patch in Maple Ridge
The kids loved the corn maze.
Amy's milking the cow.
Seven of the twelve grandbabies came along for this outing on a gorgeous sunny day.
Janice, a friend from our hiking club who's done three backpack trips with me in the past year, was in charge of all these displays. She also creates the wooden figures. Amazing!
Hank just wasn't into it.
Don't push the pumpkins off of their shelf, Natalie!
The Golden Ears mountains in the background.
Celebrating Camille's 28th during the weekly family meal.
Case & I attended the Crystal Gala, which was a formal affair to raise money for those affected by breast cancer. These funds are given by locals and in turn, given locally to Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Center. It was fun getting dressed up for once. My hair dresser did a pretty good job.
Oct. 31 - We took advantage of the good weather and headed for Whiterock. Jeanette's boys rarely get to go to the ocean, them living in Airdrie, Alberta.
First we stopped in at Redwood Park which is only a 10-minute drive east of Whiterock.
In 1893, twin brothers David & Peter Brown, homesteaded this area and plants 32 different species of trees from all over the world. Most impressive, I found were the giant Sequoias (Sierra Redwood) after whom this park is named.
Little Case had been whining all the way from home, about not going to the park but to the beach. I assured Jeanette that as soon as we're at the park, he'll stop whining. Sure enough. In fact we had to lure them away with the promise of french fries for lunch.
Just a bit past the public bathrooms, along the trail were these birdhouses, crafted by students.
Zoe, mother Renee & Natalie.
After the park came the beach. Lunch was first in order.
The poor waiter had quite the mess to clean up afterwards. There was more food under the table than on it. As we walked by the tables to leave, I was tempted to say to the 3 quiet couples there, that their entertainment was leaving.
Best of buddies.
Finally at the beach. No crabs though, but lots of sand!
There's a string of sculptures along the walkway between the pier and big white rock.
No, the day wasn't done yet. Time for Halloween!
The only trick-or-treaters I get are my grandchildren.
3-pic slider I feel sorry for the teachers who have to contain a classroom full of sugar-induced students the next day. But other than Christmas, this is the kids' favorite holiday.
