Elk Mt.

Jan. 9, 2022, Chilliwack -- Stats: 10 km / 784m gain / 1415m high

What a beautiful day! These were the winter blues that get the endorphins going. Stark white peaks stood out against the clear cobalt blue sky. With not-so-cold temperatures, we had a lengthy liesurely lunch break at the sunny summit while watching the paragliders gently soar above us.

We had packed snowshoes along but did not end up using them. This popular local trail required only micro-spikes as the snow was very well packed.

We were in a raining forest. For the first time since Christmas, the temperatures were high enough that they were melting the snow & ice in the trees.

At the first viewpoint. Cultus Lake and Sumas Prairie - west.

northwest

A steep slope directly below the viewpoint.

north

The stairs were buried under the snow.

Made it! Larrabee Mt, TomyHoii & McGuire -- southeast & south.

Slesse is the pointy peak to the left and Mt. Baker to the right.

Our lunch spot.

Mt. Baker kept a fuzzy edge on itself all day.

The loo was well eqipped with toilet paper. It was nice to have privacy when there were so many hikers on the mountain.

Slowly heading back but turning back frequently to check out those paragliders.

One of them told us he was going to fly right to his home.

Cautious steps right below the viewpoint.

We still ran into at least ten people heading up to catch the sunset as we were descending.
